Barely a week after Sacred Heart Mukumu Girls High School reopened, 11 students have been hospitalized due to various ailments. According to Nation.Africa, two students are receiving treatment for malaria, while nine others have complained of abdominal pain and fatigue. The affected students were admitted to St Elizabeth Mukumu Mission Hospital, and their conditions are being closely monitored by doctors. The school principal, Jane Mmbone, has confirmed the incident but assured parents that there is no cause for alarm as the students are responding well to treatment. Three of the students have already been discharged and returned to school, while the others are still being treated and monitored.
It is worth noting that the school was previously closed due to a mysterious illness that affected over 100 students. The outbreak was reportedly caused by food contaminated with human waste. Following investigations by the Ministry of Health, the school was closed on April 3, 2023, to allow for the implementation of health measures. The recent hospitalization of 11 students has raised concerns among parents and school officials, but the school administration has assured them that the situation is under control.
